Staying Safe During July Fourth: COVID-19 Pandemic

Fourth of July is a couple days away and the debate of move forward, scale back or cancel on everyone's mind. There is no doubting that 4th of July looks a little different amid a pandemic. The reality is COVID-19 is not halting for any holiday. Many countries have straight up CLOSED to aid in keeping large crowds from gathering. However, that does not mean all the fireworks have canceled, nevertheless below are some helpful tips on how to be careful when it comes to 2020 fourth of July and social distancing.  

Avoid Large Gatherings

If you are determined to venture out to a firework event this year, try choosing an alternative viewing area that has a smaller number of individuals gathering. Check to see if a live stream will be broadcasted in your city. The CDC offers more information on enhancing protection and preventing the spread of COVID-19. Check out Consideration for Events & Gatherings on the CDC website. 

Continue to Use Masks

Numbers continue to rise, and it is important to wear a mask. Wear face covering over nose and mouth. 

Stay Home

Fourth of July can still be well celebrated at home. Try planning a backyard BBQ or host a virtual red, white and blue party. Think ahead and get groceries for the event early instead of waiting until last minute with the crowds. If you do venture out, practice social distancing, use excellent hand hygiene and wear a mask.

— Signal Mountain - drive-thru barbecue still happening.

— Pops on the River in Coolidge Park
— Chattanooga Lookouts post-game fireworks
— Freedom Fest in Greysville, Tenn.
— Spring City Shake the Lake celebration canceled in Rhea county

Not sure:
— The city of Lakesite is still considering options.

Still happening:
— Soddy-Daisy customary car show, arts and crafts, food vendors, live music and a fireworks finale at the Kids Park at Soddy Lake.
— Athens, Tenn. display in Athens Regional Park
— LaFayette, Ga. fireworks display on July 3 but Freedom Celebration canceled.
— Fort Payne, Ala. July 2 fireworks display (festival, vendors canceled)
