Stress
Stress is a physical and mental response to current or possible changes in our personal expectations. When the body is stressed, it goes into the “fight-or-flight” response and releases hormones to get the body moving quickly. This response is healthy when responding to a threatening situation, but if the body is not in need of the increased stimulation, the result can negatively affect our health. During this “fight-or-flight”, non-essential body functions slow down, such as digestive and immune systems, the body’s muscles become tense and it is much harder to fall asleep. Reacting to stress in a healthy way can be very beneficial, but allowing stress to negatively affect our health can lead to increased blood pressure, weight gain, and diabetes, just to name a few. Allowing your nervous system to function optimally through chiropractic care can help with perception of stress and how it manifests in your body.
