Elbow Pain

Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow are common names given to pain located on the outside or inside of the elbow joint. The medical term for these injuries are lateral epicondylitis and medial epicondylitis due to the fact that the pain comes from irritation of the ligaments or muscles of the forearm where they attach to the elbow called the epicondyles.

Causes

Typically, any activity which involves repetitive gripping of object or rotating the elbow can lead to epicondylitis. In sports, this problem can surface when we are new to the sport, using improper techniques or changing the intensity of the activity. Work and daily habits cause epicondylitis usually from repetitive heavy lifting, cleaning, or computer work without proper postures.

Treatment

Epicondylitis rarely resolves on its own and if left untreated, will only become worse over time. Chiropractors are trained not only in spinal adjustments, but in adjustment of all the joints of the body as well. Some other therapies may include hot/cold packs, braces, specific exercises and stretching.
