Promoting Healthy Routines to Start Now
Habit: a settled tendency or usual manner of behaviour” or “a behaviour pattern acquired by frequent repetition.
The structure of our day and the habits we choose for ourselves has an exponential effect on our mental, physical and emotional health. When we choose healthy habits and use them on a consistent schedule this can mean the difference between our bodies operating at peak efficiency or barely reaching our health goals each month. Everyone's bodies are different and what might work for some, might not work for others, but there are a few common healthy daily habits that most can implement and improve overall health. You may be surprised to find out that some of the most beneficial habit changes have zero to do with diet or exercise.
Stay Hydrated: Drink water before anything else
Set alarms to wake up early: Our brains and body have evolved to follow a circadian rhythm (specifically rising and setting with the sun).
Get fresh air daily: (aim to spend time outside) Exposure to the sun enables our bodies to produce vitamin D.
Eat veggies: This is probably not the first time someone has told you this, ha! Fresh veggies are rich in minerals and vitamins as well are a fantastic source of fiber that can maintain a healthy gut.
Pick up a book and read: Reading daily has benefits to our mental health and physical health. Reading has many benefits including growth, reducing stress, and promotes a good night's rest. Think of reading as a workout for your brain. Create time for Movement: The sedentary lifestyle has creeped up on many of us but humans are designed to move. Many of us work sitting down, we travel sitting, we relax in full sit mode. It's becoming crucial for us to create time for movement in our busy lives since it's not occurring organically. Creating time for movement could be taking a walk, biking, a quick stop to the gym, yoga etc.
